Weighted Grade Calculator

In most classes, a final exam matters more than a homework assignment. A weighted grade calculator handles that math for you. Enter each assignment with its score and its weight, and you’ll see your weighted average, the matching letter grade, and a running total of the weights you’ve used. Add as many rows as you need.

How it works

A weighted grade multiplies each score by its weight, sums the results, and divides by the total weight:

Weighted Grade = Σ(Score × Weight) ÷ Σ(Weight)

If your weights add to 100, the denominator is just 100 and the formula simplifies. If they don’t, the calculator still divides by whatever weight you’ve entered so the average remains valid.

Example calculation

A class has three graded items: homework (20%), midterm (30%), and final exam (50%). The student scores 92, 84, and 88:

(92 × 20) + (84 × 30) + (88 × 50) = 1840 + 2520 + 4400 = 8760
8760 ÷ 100 = 87.6%
87.6% → Letter grade B+

FAQ

Common Questions About Weighted Grade Calculator

What is a weighted grade?

A weighted grade is an average where some assignments count more than others. A final exam worth 50% of your grade pulls the average more than a quiz worth 5%.

Do the weights have to add up to 100?

No, not always. Many grading systems use 100% total weight, but some calculators can still estimate a weighted average even if the total is different. It depends on how the grading system is set up.

How is a weighted grade different from a simple average?

A simple average treats every item equally. A weighted average lets a final exam, project, or test carry more or less impact based on the weight you set.

How do I calculate a weighted grade by hand?

Multiply each score by its weight, add up all those products, then divide by the total weight. Example: (92×20 + 84×30 + 88×50) ÷ 100 = 87.4%.

Can I add more than three assignments?

Yes. Click the "Add row" button to add as many graded items as you need. Use the × button on any row to remove it.

Is this calculator free?

Yes — completely free, no signup, and it works on any device.
